This Cookie Notice explains how GPA PAL ("GPA PAL", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies in connection with the gpapal.site website and any other website that we own or control and which posts or links to this Cookie Notice (collectively, the "Sites"), and our mobile apps for iOS and Android (the "App").
What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies serve different purposes, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, keeping you logged in, remembering your preferences, and generally improving your experience.
Our Sites may use both session cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your computer or mobile device until you delete them or they expire).
Cookies fall into two broad categories: (1) first-party cookies, served directly by us, which we use to recognize your device when it revisits our Sites; and (2) third-party cookies, served by service providers on our Sites, which those providers may use to recognize your device.
What types of cookies and similar technologies do we use?
GPA PAL uses only the cookies and similar technologies needed to run and maintain the service, including error monitoring and session replay to help us fix bugs. We do not use advertising or social media tracking cookies.
| Type | Description | Who serves the cookies | How to control them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | These cookies and similar storage are necessary for the technical operation of our services. They keep you signed in, maintain your session, and help protect your account. Without them, features like logging in and accessing your courses, assignments, and grades would not work. | GPA PAL (first party), using our authentication provider, Supabase | Block or delete cookies in your browser settings (see "Your choices" below). Blocking them will prevent you from staying logged in. |
| Functionality | These help the Sites remember settings and preferences you choose, such as display options. | GPA PAL (first party) | Browser settings |
| Performance and error monitoring | We use Sentry to detect errors and diagnose problems. Sentry stores a session identifier in your browser's session storage (sentryReplaySession) that lasts only for your browsing session. It is used to link an error or a session replay to the session in which it occurred. | Sentry (third party). See Sentry's Privacy Policy | Browser settings. Clearing session storage or closing your browser ends the session. |
| Security and bot protection | On the sign-in, sign-up, and password reset forms we use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a request comes from a person and not an automated program. Turnstile runs a check in your browser that may collect your IP address and information about your browser and device. It is necessary to protect accounts from automated attacks. | Cloudflare (third party). See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy | Cannot be turned off on these forms; the forms will not work without it. |
| Embedded content | The GPA PAL community lets users embed videos from YouTube and Vimeo in posts. When you view or play an embedded video, the provider may set its own cookies on your device. | Google / YouTube and Vimeo (third parties). See Google's Privacy Policy and Vimeo's Privacy Policy | Browser settings, or avoid playing embedded videos. You can manage Google's settings in your Google account. |
We do not currently use advertising cookies, product analytics cookies, or social media cookies. If this changes, we will update this Cookie Notice before we start using them.
Other technologies
Browser web storage
We use browser web storage (also known as local storage), which works similarly to cookies, to keep you signed in and to store your preferences. Browser web storage can hold a larger amount of data than cookies. Your web browser may provide a way to clear it.
Mobile apps
Our App stores a sign-in session on your device so you do not have to log in every time you open it. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs in the App. If we add SDKs for analytics or crash reporting, we will name them here and in our Privacy Policy.
Session replay
We use Sentry's session replay feature to record how the Sites are used, including clicks, scrolling, and page navigation, so we can reproduce bugs and fix usability problems. Replays are used only for diagnosing and improving the Sites. We configure replay to mask text and block media so that what you type and the content shown on the page, such as your grades and course information, is not captured in readable form.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically record basic technical information when you use our Sites, such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. This is described in our Privacy Policy.
Your choices
Your options for controlling what information cookies and similar technologies collect about you include:
- Blocking cookies in your browser. Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies. To do this, follow the instructions in your browser settings. Many browsers accept cookies by default until you change your settings. Please note that if you set your browser to disable cookies or clear web storage, you will not be able to stay logged in to GPA PAL, and some features of the Sites may not work properly.
- Signing out. Signing out of your account ends your session and removes your sign-in information from the device you are using.
- Embedded content. You can avoid third-party cookies from embedded videos by not playing them, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.

Changes
Information about the cookies we use may be updated from time to time, so please check back on a regular basis for any changes. We will update the "Last modified" date below when we make changes.
